In RSU 10 schools, we will have an additional one hour delay this morning making start time 9:45. WFRP will have a 2 hour delay. There will be no LAW for staff and MVMS remote learning schedule will remain the same.

The Town of Rumford has confirmed that due to a malfunction at the Mill there was a release of spent black liquor which resulted in precipitation of brown or tan colored snow. This is mostly in the areas of Town nearest to the Mill especially Falmouth Steet, Cumberland Street and Waldo Street. The pH of this substance is 10 which is alkali and therefore a skin irritant.
Although it is non-toxic it should not be touched or otherwise put in contact with skin.
Maine DEP has already been notified and are on their way to take a sample. We have been
in contact with the Mill and they have already rectified the issue and have informed their
regulators. In the meantime, we are also notifying the school district to let kids know not to
play with "brown snow". It is likely advisable to keep your pets away from this snow. We
are hopeful the rain tomorrow will wash most of the substance away and flush it off the
ground and people's homes or property. For any questions or concerns please call the
Town Manager's office - (207) 364-4576 press 1 and then 1 again.

All after school activities are canceled for today, Tuesday, December 10th. Thank you.

MVHS: Tomorrow (12/10) the Senior class is scheduled to have a post-secondary field trip to Husson University, Central Maine Community College and the Bath Iron Works Training Facility. We are not sure about the weather coming in tonight so we want everyone to know that if there is any sort of delay (1 or 2 hours) we will have to reschedule the trip. If we have school at regular time, transportation will notify us if we are still able to send the buses. As of right now the trips are on and we are excited to be able to provide these opportunities for our Seniors and they need to make sure they are on time to school (8:00 am)! If anything changes we will notify as soon as possible.

MVHS: Good afternoon, we want to make you all aware that within the next two weeks, Mountain Valley High School will be performing an ALICE drill. ALICE is our response protocol if we were to ever have an active threat at MVHS. Our students have already done an activity in their homerooms regarding various situations and how they would respond but it is important that we also complete a drill in the Fall and the Spring. Each time we perform an ALICE drill we take time to debrief as a school and we will have counseling services available to any student in need. Keeping our students safe is our number one priority and these drills are a necessary component to our safety. If you have any questions, please call the main office.
-Mr. Danylik & Mr. Milledge

MVHS: Over the next few days, you will see Progress Reports coming home in the mail! Please take a look carefully and see how your student is doing through the 1st quarter of the school year. You will notice that if your student is enrolled in Region 9, a grade will not appear. Moving forward, we will only put Region 9 on Reports Cards, which are sent home at the end of first and second semester. If you have questions about your student's progress at Region 9 at this time, please contact them directly. Have a great weekend!
