The RSU 10 Board asked the Department of Education for a waiver for 5 school days. This would allow us to NOT have to add these days in June. They also agreed to allow "Remote Learning" to count as school days for students and these will begin on March 23rd. #FalconsFly

To all MVHS students: Teachers will be communicating with students through school Gmail and/or Google classroom. Check your school Gmail regularly. If it's not working or hasn't been set up, contact the helpdesk by calling 364-4547 x7700 or email Mike at: firstname.lastname@example.org

Good Afternoon: RSU 10 has been continually monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic. In an effort to be proactive in protecting the health and safety of our community, RSU 10 schools will be closed for students Monday, March 16t h through Friday, March 27t h . This closure is not the result of any suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19 in our immediate communities. This decision was made in consultation with many, and out of an abundance of caution, to follow the rapidly changing guidance regarding enhancing social distancing efforts. This decision has not been made lightly and we certainly empathize and understand the significant burden this will cause families in the coming days. On Monday, staff will report for their regularly scheduled day. Administrators will meet with staff in their buildings at 8:00 a.m. Plans for the rest of the day will be shared. Much more information will be forthcoming on this closure, but we want to communicate this news to you as soon as possible so you may begin planning for child care and other concerns that will be raised by this decision. We will be working with our administrative team and board members to provide more information as soon as possible. During this closure, we ask that you assist by minimizing group meetings of students and adults. Practicing social distancing and good personal hygiene are the two greatest steps we can take to protect our communities from the spread of COVID-19. Finally, we would like to commend each of our stakeholders who are contributing positive energy and dynamic solutions to our schools’ response to this fluid situation. We as a district shall remain composed, collected and compassionate as we navigate through any challenges we face now and in the future. Thank you, Deb Alden
Below is a statement from the MPA regarding its decision to delay the start of Spring Sports. There are very few details as of right now and the MVC will be be working together as a conference to develop schedules and make any necessary changes: “Yesterday, Governor Mills had a press conference stating that they are encouraging “Social Distancing.” By her definition, “social distancing” means groups of 250 or more people attending non-essential events should be delayed or postponed. Because of this, the MPA Board of Directors and Interscholastic Management Committee voted today, March 13, 2020 to delay the start of the 2020 Spring sports pre-season practice until April 27, 2020. We will continue to monitor the situation and will make the appropriate changes as needed to ensure the safety of all students.” If you have any questions please feel free to contact the school and ask for Tom Danylik. There might not be much to share at this time but please do not hesitate to call.

Avery will be invited to play in Annual East-West All-Star Game in the summer of 2020. Well deserved recognition for an amazing athlete who accomplished so much during her 4 year career at MV. Congrats Avery!!
There is nothing better than we get to celebrate the accomplishments of our student athletes and we have a couple more to share! Saydie Garbarini has been selected to Maine Soccer Coaches Regional All-Star team! She will play in the Senior Bowl on 11/17 at 12:00 at Thomas College We would also like to announce that Dylan Desroches and Matthew Brown have both been selected as Campbell Conference All-Stars for their efforts on the football field this season! They will be celebrated at a Banquet on 11/24 at the Italian Hertiage Center in Portland Congratulations to these three senior athletes! Hard work pays off!
Now that our Fall sports season is complete we wanted to give an update on Winter sports: Unfortunately, Mountain Valley will not be fielding a Nordic Ski team this winter. Participation numbers have been decreasing over the last few seasons and with extremely low interest heading into the 2019-2020 season we have decided to not field a team for this winter. This was proposed and accepted by the school board last Monday. If any MV students are interested in Nordic they will still have an opportunity as an Independent. If any athlete wants to pursue this option please come see Mr. Danylik as soon as possible. This was not an easy decision and we hope to start the conversation of how to bring back a passion for Nordic Skiing that has existed in the Rumford community for generations.
Jasper Turner’s Celebration of Life is this Sunday from 2-4 in the auditorium.
School Calendar Survey for Public: We invite you to help guide our decisions as we develop the RSU10 School Calendar. Please complete this short survey by December 1st. Thank you! https://forms.gle/68NiVncPACvjRdaF7
